News - VTEX and commercetools both announce US expansion appointments

January 26th, 2021. VTEX and commercetools have both announced senior appointments in the US in response to growing customer demand here.

VTEX and commercetools are ecommerce platform vendors we position in the "Growing eCommerce Platforms" category in our platform shortlist.

VTEX announced on January 11, 2021, the appointments of:

  • Jared Blank as Chief Marketing Officer. Blank was previously CMO at Doodle, the Swiss-based calendaring and scheduling platform and before that SVP Marketing at Bluecore, a marketing technology vendor. He has also worked at Tommy Hilfiger in the past.
  • Ben Hussey as VP of Sales. Hussey, the most ecommerce-focused of the trio, was previously with Elastic Path, another member of our ecommeerce platform shortlist, as VP of Global Sales.
  • Emeka Nwosu as VP Solutions Engineering. Nwosu was previously at Productsup, a product information syndication platform, as Head of Solutions Engineering North America, and prior to that with MyWebGrocer, a grocery-specific ecommerce platform which was acquired in 2018 by Mi9 Retail as VP Solution Engineering.

The VTEX announcement states gross merchandise value transacted on their platform in December 2020 was up 342% on prior year, with a 30% growth in customer base. Its US team, with an office in Manhattan, is now 50 strong. It claims customers of AB InBev, Stanley Black & Decker, bisco industries, St. Croix. The VTEX US team is led by Amit Shah, US General Manager and Chief Strategy Officer who in common with Blank has experience with Doodle and is a member of their supervisory board.

Commercetools announced on January 26, 2021, the appointment of:

  • Jim Curtis as Head of Sales - Americas. Curtis was previously Group Vice President Enterprise Commercial and Public Sector Sales at NewRelic, a technology monitoring vendor with over 17,000 customers and prior to that VP Sales at Oracle Corporation.

The commercetools announcement points to its growing list of US customers, including AT&T, Dawns Foods, Harry Rosen, Tiffany & Co. and VIZIO.
